Police arrest 5 drug peddlers in Kashmir | KNO

Srinagar, Oct 02 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, J&K police Thursday said to have arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession. “In Baramulla, acting on credible inputs, J&K Police laid naka checkpoints at Wussan and Chichlora crossings. During checking at Wussan, a vehicle (Wagon-R) bearing Reg. No. DL6CL-4065 was intercepted with 03 persons onboard,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). During their personal search, police said that a heroin-like substance weighing 19 grams was recovered. They have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray, son of Bashir Ahmad Magray, Furkaan Ahmad Lone, son of Manzoor Ahmad Lone, Danish Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Shamim Lone all residents of Merchipora, Tangmarg. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized. Moreover, one suspicious individual, identified as Vinod Kumar son of Ram Lal resident of Rawsar, Rajasthan (presently residing at Qamarwari Barthana, Srinagar), was intercepted at Chichilora crossing. During the search, 46 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession and was subsequently arrested, police said. In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Chadoora, at a checkpont established at Durbugh Crossing intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Mahindra Thar) bearing registration numbers DL4CNA7913 driven by Mohammad Ashraf Nath son of Mohammad Ismail Nath resident of Parnew, Wazir Bagh, Budgam. During the search, contraband was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized. Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation is going on. Meanwhile, Police reiterated its firm zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and assures the public that strict action will be taken against all individuals involved in this menace which poses a grave threat to society—(KNO)
